The 100% electric luxury crossover of Genesis it is already a success: the sales figures, which are constantly growing especially in the United States, seem to reward the ambitions of the SUV coupé of the premium brand from Hyundai.
There GV60 marks a new standard for the concept of luxury design applied to cars, combining minimal lines and latest generation technologies: a perfect example of the Genesis philosophy, inspired by the Korean architecture of “white spaces”, is the Crystal ball.
Genesis GV60: the car with the Crystal Ball
There Crystal Ball from GV60 it is one of those characteristics that do not go unnoticed: in the heart of the passenger compartment, on a “floating” central unit inspired by the minimal design of oriental architecture, an elegant luminescent sphere stands out.
First seen in the Genesis X concept, the Crystal Ball is the gorgeous rotary gear selector made for the new electric cars of the Korean brand, which defines it as the nerve center of the passenger compartment but also as the point of contact between the driver and the car, the one capable of creating a real connection with the vehicle.
The Crystal Ball was designed to best interpret the philosophy of “beauty in white spaces”, The conception of traditional Korean architecture that teaches the strategic use of empty spaces in the creation of a comfortable and personal environment.
Placed alongside a futuristic fingerprint scanner, the hyper-tech luxury SUV’s gearbox is not only a central aesthetic element in the GV60’s interior, it also features important features related to safety and vehicle perception. When the car is being charged, for example, the sphere is inaccessible, while when reverse gear is engaged it lights up red, warning the driver.
The futuristic gearbox of Genesis has been developed to last a long time and be easy and safe to use: it is not a habit, but a possible interpretation of the mobility of the future – which does not forget safety, usability and driving experience.
Style and safety from the future
When the car is off, the Crystal Ball is part of thelighting cockpit: when the doors open to accommodate passengers, the sphere emits a warm welcome glow. Only when the driver presses the Start button, then the sphere becomes accessible, by rotating 180 ° and uncovering the metallic Shift By Wire selector, which according to Genesis projects the driver towards an atmosphere of “Futuristic mobility”.
By turning the gear dial, which is knurled for optimum grip, the driver can select the desired gear, receiving tactile feedback confirming gear engagement. The futuristic change of Genesis produces some subtle vibrations even when changing direction or shifting from driving gear to reverse.
“As the GV60 is an electric vehicle, one of the main challenges is to warn the driver that the car is ready to go,” he explains. Luc Donckerwolke, CCO of Genesis. “Our engineering and design departments have worked closely together to create this unique and fascinating way to connect with the vehicle.”
The Crystal Ball perfectly interprets the commitment of Genesis, which is to define a new standard in luxury offering “unrivaled technology, premium design and passion to drive,” Donckerwolke concludes. Standard on all versions of the GV60 – Premium, Sport and Sport Plus – the Crystal Ball will be integrated into many of the House’s upcoming models.
