Take a tour of Europe with CCCC Valencia’s movie nights. For this last week of summer nights, the Center del Carme is launching the 4th edition of evenings dedicated to European comedy. Until August 31 you will be able to discover successful cinematographic works, Ukrainian, German, Greek and French. A week on the theme of humor entitled: “What are we laughing at in Europe?”, completely free and free of charge.
In the heart of the Gothic cloister of the Center del Carme, screenings will be held every evening at 10 p.m., except Mondays. The season was due to end on Sunday August 28, but the August 13 and 17 sessions have been postponed to Tuesday 30 and Wednesday 31. The films will be broadcast in their original version and subtitled in Spanish and Valencian.

“Almanaya – Willkomen in Deutschland”, Yasemin Sanderelli
This Wednesday, August 24, Yasemin Sanderelli opens the ball with “Almanaya – Willkomen in Deutschland” which can be translated as Welcome to Germany. In this 2011 work, the filmmaker simply describes her family’s migration from Turkey to Germany and how it changed her life.
“No Budget Story”, Renos Haralambidis
The week continues on Thursday August 25 with a film by Greek Renos Haralambidis: “No Budget Story”, released in 1997. A story of love and humor that depicts the consumerism of Greece in the 90s.
“Der Bewegte Mann”, Sönke Wortmann
On Friday August 26, a German parody, “Der Bewegte Mann”, will be broadcast. This is an adaptation by Sönke Wortmann from 1994 of the comics “The New Man” and “Pretty Baby” by Ralf Rönig. The director represents through humor and clichés the junction between two worlds: heterosexuals and homosexuals.
“My thoughts are silent”, Antonio Lukich
A more recent film will be screened on Saturday August 27. “My thoughts are silent”, a Ukrainian film by Antonio Lukich, was released in 2019. The director tells his own story which revolves around the difficulty of getting a job as a sound engineer. An essential work, ranked in 20th position of the 100 best Ukrainian films in history.
“Ich bin dein Mensch”, Maria Schrader
On Sunday August 28, it will be Maria Schrader’s turn to present her original cinematographic creation “Ich bin dein Mensch”. Released in 2021, this feature film, futuristic but not that much, illustrates a world where relationships are governed by algorithms aimed at creating the perfect couple. Utopia or dystopia? Star of the big screen in Germany on its release, the film was nominated for the Oscar for best foreign film.
The week is coming to an end but the last two sessions, originally scheduled for August 13 and 17, will make the fun last a little longer. Thus, “Pappa ante portas” by Loriot and “Narco” by Tristan Aurouet and Gilles Lellouche will be broadcast on Tuesday August 30 and Wednesday August 31 respectively. Two hilarious comedies. What a way to end the season in style.
